Wexmoor Builders has reached a landmark safety milestone: 1,000 consecutive days without a reportable incident across all 14 active construction sites. This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to our people-first safety culture and rigorous site management protocols.
A Culture Built on Safety
At Wexmoor Builders, safety is not a checklist — it is embedded into every aspect of how we plan and execute work. From the moment a worker arrives on site to the final close-out inspection, our Safety Management System (SMS) governs every decision. This milestone is proof that zero harm is an achievable standard, not just an aspiration.
The 1,000-day stretch spans across bridge works, road construction, runway resurfacing, and building projects — each carrying its own hazard profile. That we achieved this performance simultaneously across such diverse operations is a testament to the consistency and discipline of every individual on our teams.
What Makes the Difference
Several key initiatives have underpinned this record. Our toolbox talk programme, conducted daily at every site, ensures workers begin each shift with a shared understanding of that day's specific risks and controls. In parallel, our near-miss reporting system — which protects anonymity and removes blame — has generated hundreds of improvement actions that have materially reduced risk across all sites.
In 2023, we rolled out our digital safety observation platform, enabling any worker to report a hazard in real time via smartphone. Over 3,800 observations have been logged to date, with an average resolution time of under 4 hours for critical items.
Recognition & Next Steps
To mark the milestone, our teams were recognised at site-level celebrations across all active projects. CEO Karl Aigner personally attended three of the recognition events, reaffirming the company's commitment: that no deadline, budget pressure, or commercial objective will ever take precedence over the safety of our people. Our target? 2,000 days — and beyond.
